5. Vitamin D status and its supplementation in left ventricular remodeling in chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
About the study.
The study aims to evaluate the relationship between vitamin D levels and left ventricular remodeling in patients with chronic kidney disease, as well as to analyze the effects of vitamin D supplementation on remodeling-related cardiac parameters.
Results.
In observational studies, higher levels of vitamin D were associated with a lower left ventricular mass index (LVMI), but the reliability of these data was very low. Vitamin D supplementation did not lead to significant improvements in LVMI or left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). A possible reduction in interventricular septal thickness (IVST) was observed, but this is based on limited and inconsistent data.
4. High doses of vitamin B6 reduce depression symptoms.
About the study.
The study aims to assess the impact of high doses of vitamin B6 on depression symptoms in participants with mild to more severe symptoms. The effects of vitamin B6, placebo, and vitamin B12 were compared in the study.
Results.
Vitamin B6 led to a significant reduction in depression symptoms only in the group with mild to more severe symptoms compared to placebo or vitamin B12, with a very large effect size (partial = 0.20). Participants whose DASS depression scores nearly reached the threshold for moderate depression also showed a statistically significant reduction in symptoms (partial = 0.17).
3. Prevalence and risk factors of bone fragility in Duchenne muscular dystrophy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
About the study.
The study aims to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of low bone mineral density and fractures in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted analyzing data from 43 studies involving 4940 patients.
Results.
The prevalence of low bone mineral density was 0.62, and the prevalence of fractures was 0.38. The highest prevalence of fractures was observed in North America and Oceania (0.47), while it was 0.30 in Europe and 0.17 in Asia. In patients receiving glucocorticoids, the prevalence of fractures was higher (0.39 vs. 0.23 in those not receiving them).
