E351, or L-lactic acid, is a food additive widely used in the food industry.
L-lactic acid is naturally produced by bacteria and is often found in dairy products such as yogurt. It has a sour taste and is used as a preservative, acidity regulator, and antioxidant.
Although L-lactic acid is considered safe for consumption in moderate amounts, excessive intake may cause gastrointestinal disturbances in some individuals.
Products that most commonly contain E351 include yogurts, cheeses, fermented dairy drinks, canned vegetables and fruits, and marinades.
