5. The influence of different forms of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on dry eye syndrome arising from various causes: a meta-analysis and systematic review.

The aim of the study was to compare the therapeutic effects of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid supplements in various forms for dry eye syndrome considering different etiologies. The study analyzed the results of 27 randomized controlled trials.
Results.
Systemic omega-3 supplements improved all assessed outcomes in the overall analysis; however, the effects depended on the formulation and etiology. Significant improvements were found in dry eye associated with the use of video displays and contact lenses, while in cases related to meibomian gland dysfunction or undefined etiology, no significant advantages were observed.

The HAD was associated with decreased taxonomic and functional alpha diversity compared to baseline, while the TAD did not cause changes. 105 functional pathways differed between diets, of which 99 increased after HAD, mainly related to amino acid and nucleotide biosynthesis, as well as vitamin/cofactor metabolism.
