Calciul din surse vegetale are cea mai scăzută biodisponibilitate. Inclusiv calciul din susan. În susan se găsesc fitati care leagă calciul și nu îi permit să fie absorbit.
Calciul din surse vegetale are o biodisponibilitate mai scăzută comparativ cu calciul din produsele lactate. Acest lucru se datorează prezenței antinutrienților, cum ar fi:

fitatii (se găsesc, de exemplu, în susan, nuci, leguminoase) — aceștia leagă mineralele, inclusiv calciul, și împiedică absorbția lor în intestin;
